Visit a thriving port city less than two hours from Beijing

As the port located closest to Beijing, Tianjin was once a prize for many foreign colonial powers. Between 1903 and 1917 there were no less than eight different concession areas in the city belonging to countries such as Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, and Japan; though these countries have long since vacated the concessions, a closer look reveals a legacy worth exploring!

As the term implies, the concessions were parcels of land that were given to foreign countries to do as they pleased with. Some, such as the French and Italians, created a home away from home, still evident in the architecture of the buildings. Mixed in with traditional Chinese culture, these concessions give Tianjin a unique feel and architectural elegance.

During our short weekend getaway to Tianjin we’ll enjoy a cruise down the Hai River and take in majestic views from the top of the Tianjin Eye ferris wheel. We’ll visit the Wudatao area, five parallel streets with more than 230 Western-style villas, and we can even take a horse and carriage ride for a quaint tour.  And because we’re SnapAdventures, we’ll also check out the nightlife around the Italian Concession area too!

Afternoon bus to Tianjin. Hai River cruise and Tianjin Eye. Night out in Italian Concession.

DAY 2

City tour of Foreign Concessions and Gulou markets. Afternoon bus to Beijing.
